Each year, NASBE hosts numerous meetings and conferences to ensure state board members continue to be informed on the emerging issues in education and have professional development opportunities. NASBE’s Board of Directors and Governmental Affairs Committee meet three times a year while the Legislative Conference, New State Board Member Institute, and Annual Conference are yearly events.
NASBE regional meetings bring together state board members from neighboring states to discuss issues of national and regional importance, and share best practices.
NASBE’s Annual Conference focuses sessions on the latest thinking across a wide range of education topics, on the professional development of board members and on the formulation of state education policy.
The Legislative Conference is where we connect with key congressional education leadership, discuss with senior staff at the U.S. Department of Education, and work with colleagues on state-specific education issues.
Each year NASBE gives new state board members the opportunity to gather with experienced board members and staff at the New State Board Member Institute. NASBE helps support these new members by covering the costs of two members from each state. Held every July, the Institute is designed to equip new board members with skills, knowledge, and insider tips that will enable them to be more effective board members.
