This month, the Thomas B. Fordham Institute released its much-anticipated study, Evaluating the Content and Quality of Next Generation Assessments, which examines the content, quality, and rigor of four state assessments: ACT Aspire, PARCC, Smarter Balanced, and MCAS, Massachusetts’s state exam.

Overall, the study found that the PARCC and Smarter Balanced assessments have the strongest matches to CCSSO’s criteria for high-quality evaluations. ACT Aspire and the MCAS exams fare well in both their quality and depth of knowledge but fall short on assessing content reflected in Common Core State Standards.

Join NASBE on March 17, 2016, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm (EDT) as we talk with the Fordham Institute’s Mike Petrilli and Amber Northern about the findings and their implications for state policymaking. The webinar will also feature Sheila Schultz from Human Resources Research Organization, HumRRO, who will discuss a companion report that looks at the same four tests at the high school level.
