Alexandria, VA – Today, NASBE partnered with CCSSO in sending a letter to Congress urging a significant increase funding for the Education Stabilization Fund, including increases for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund. President and CEO Robert Hull made this statement:
“We are proud of the dedication and commitment state leaders have shown in serving students and educators during in this challenging, uncertain time. COVID-19 recovery efforts are costly, and the strain on education budgets will be severe and long lasting. NASBE stands with our colleagues in urging Congress to provide additional, significant resources to help states and school districts across the nation meet the challenges ahead.”
Brooke Axiotis, Iowa state board member and chair of NASBE’s board of directors, comments:
“State board members are working hard to help schools address the needs of students and families during this unprecedented time. States are already facing education budget pressures and we cannot maintain a level of response that ensures equity and access for all students without additional resources. Increased federal funding is essential to help states continue their response efforts and plan ahead.”
