Vermont Secretary of Education
The Vermont State Board of Education is conducting a national search for a Secretary to lead the Vermont Agency of Education as a cabinet-level appointee of the Governor. The individual shall be a proven leader with a strong record of working with boards as well as with key constituent groups. This individual needs to be a powerful communicator and a dynamic executive who has a passion for educational improvement.
Vermont is a state that values education and embraces educational improvement as a cooperative venture among all stakeholders. The improvement agenda is focused on individual student plans, a multiplicity of pathways, demonstration of proficiencies in ways beyond standardized testing, and the provision of excellent opportunities to learn for all children.
The Secretary will have expertise in education management and policy, and demonstrated leadership and management abilities. Prospective candidates should submit a resume, a letter of application detailing how the candidate’s previous experience has prepared them for this job, and the names of three current references.
