Building Capacity For State Science Education (BCSSE)
A project of the Council of State Science Supervisors designed to provide sustained professional development for state science supervisors to gain fluency and utility with the NRC Framework, create communication tools to disseminate key messages from the Framework to multiple state-based audiences, and develop a state-based strategic plan for work with the Framework and dissemination and adoption of NGSS.
Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
The Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects are the culmination of an extended, broad-based effort to fulfill the charge issued by the states to create the next generation of K–12 standards in order to help ensure that all students are college and career ready in literacy no later than the end of high school.
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
The NGSS is a collaborative, state-led process managed by Achieve to develop K–12 science standards. They are rich in content and practice, arranged in a coherent manner across the science disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. The NGSS is based on the Framework for K–12 Science Education developed by the National Research Council.
A Next Generation Science Exemplar System Prototype (NGSx) Professional Development
This is a project that will produce, pilot and evaluate a prototype web-based platform designed to help teachers better understand the incorporation of practices into the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
