Dr. Henry Elected to Board of National Association
Arlington, VA —Samuel Henry, a member of the Oregon State Board of Education since 2010, was elected as Western Area Director of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) this month at the association’s Annual Conference in Denver.
Dr. Henry, who was appointed as chair of the Oregon state board in 2013, was appointed to the NASBE Board of Directors in March to fill an unexpired term. He now will begin to serve his first full term on the NASBE board. Dr. Henry is an associate professor of curriculum and instruction at Portland State University. He is a founding executive director of Portland Educational Network, an educational reform collaborative.
Dr. Henry previously directed an undergraduate urban teacher education program at the University of Massachusetts, served as an associate dean and an assistant vice president for student affairs at San Jose State University, and served as associate dean at California State University at Northridge. He taught in high schools in Washington, D.C., and Binghamton, N.Y. Dr. Henry received his bachelor’s degree from DC Teachers College and earned a master’s in curriculum development and a doctorate in urban education from Columbia University Teachers College.
