Lord Selected to Lead National Association

Arlington, VA — Mary Lord, vice president of the D.C. State Board of Education, was chosen to serve as president of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) in 2015 at its Annual Conference this month in Denver.  She has served as the association’s 2014 president-elect.

Ms. Lord is an award-winning journalist and longtime Dupont Circle resident. She has served on the D.C. State Board of Education since its inception in 2007, and she was elected as the at-large member in November 2012. Her articles have appeared in local and national publications, including U.S. News & World Report, where she covered K-12 and higher education after stints as Tokyo bureau chief and business editor. She is a reporter and editor for the American Society for Engineering Education’s Prism magazine and Engineering, Go For It, a lesson-packed  monthly e-newsletter for K-12 science and engineering educators. Ms. Lord also is a board member of the Dupont Circle Citizens Association and a community volunteer. She earned her bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies at Harvard University.

Jane Goff, a member of the Colorado State Board of Education, has been NASBE’s president this year. James McNiece, a member of the Kansas State Board of Education, serves as NASBE president-elect in 2015.
