2014 Southern Regional Conference
On July 8, 2014, NASBE hosted the first of two Regional Conferences in 2014 focused on the state goals, policies, and practices of quality science standards such as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This one day event was held in Louisville, Kentucky.
Participants learned about the nation’s renewed focus on science education and how NGSS came to be, examined new state student aspirations data on STEM, and explored how to collaborate with existing state and national science and STEM networks. In the afternoon, state board members discussed how certain communications strategies can support the vision for quality science education. State board members were able to interact with others and built knowledge about communications and implications of new science standards in the conference.
